Answer to Question 1

1
Rationale: The humanistic perspective on mental disorders implies an expanded role for psychiatricmental health nurses who understand diversity and are prepared to work for change within social and political systems. The model for intervention and change is one of negotiation and advocacy, not directive interventions. Empowerment is a basic concept as the responsibility for change rests with the client who is viewed as accountable for his or her own behavior. Humanism contends that people have the potential to solve their own problems, thus, clients and families must be involved in treatment from the beginning. This requires the nurse to provide timely and complete psychoeducational information.

Answer to Question 2

2
Rationale: During the recovery process it is important that the client gets needed care. You and the client with take the opportunity to look at the whole picture of the client's needs and abilities and keep up to date on changes in the plan. HIPAA regulations prevent the health care provider from sharing information with those that aren't involved in the client's care. The patient asked you a question; therefore, it is not therapeutic to answer the patient with a question. The doctor would not address this issue, the nurse would when it is presented.
