Answer to Question 1

Ans: B
Feedback:
Assimilation means the expectation for immigrants and minority groups to become like the majority culture. Ethnocentrism is the belief that one's own cultural practices and values are inherently correct or superior to those of others. Stereotyping is believing that one member of a cultural group will display certain behaviors or hold certain attitudes (usually negative) simply because he or she is a member of that cultural group. Stigmatization is the attribution of negative characteristics or identity to one person or group, causing feelings of rejection, alienation, and ostracization from society.

Answer to Question 2

Ans: D
Feedback:
Today, individualized therapy according to age, sex, culture, ethnicity, and other life circumstances is the recognized standard of practice. Furthermore, providers must understand how racial and ethnic differences can affect metabolism of prescribed medications, which can influence a drug's safety and effectiveness with a particular client. This practice may be evidence-based, but it is not exclusive to EBP. This is not considered to be a form of stereotyping and it does not necessarily indicate self-awareness on the physician's part.

This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
