A work is copyrighted as soon as it is written. You can add the copyright symbol, but its not necessary for protection.

Because of computers, its easier to find information to use: You can just get on the net and cut, paste, and dump. Or, you can download documents, music, and films. Most of these kinds of files and even many webpages are copyrighted; therefore, there are rules and laws governing their fair use. But its so easy to access these documents that one can violate copyright law almost without knowing it.
