  • When Desdemona asks for Cassio to be summoned to prove that she didnt give him the handkerchief, Othello tells her Cassio is dead.



When she weeps at this news, he is enraged and proceeds to smother her.

  • In response to Emilias horrified questioning, Othello, after killing Desdemona, says that it was Iago who told him she had been unfaithful with Cassio, to whom she had given her handkerchief. Emilia tells him that she had filched the handkerchief, after Iagos repeated urging, when Desdemona had dropped it.
