  • He rimes the names of musical instruments with the names of gangsters. He also usually pairs proper nouns with common names. The rimes are bluntly emphasized, as in a jingle or slogan.

  • Both the sounds themselves and their steady, constant repetition suggest the ticking of a watch, echoing the speakers obsessive attention to the sound, with all that it suggests about her continual discontent and apparent longing for death.
