Answer to Question 1

Viruses make good genetic vectors because they actually become part of an organism's DNA before the organism's immune system can overcome it. By removing the disease-causing genes from a virus, desired genetic material can be inserted. The virus then carries the new DNA into the cell nuclei of the animal that is to be genetically altered.

Answer to Question 2

Gene therapy involves the insertion of genes into the human genome that corrects a problem with a person's original genes. The idea is to use a vector such as a virus to insert new genetic material into the nucleus of cells involved with the genetic problem.
