Answer to Question 1

To convert an entire, distinct dairy herd to organic production, the USDA standards for organic livestock product require that the producer provide 80 percent organically produced feed for nine months, followed by three months of 100 percent organically produced feed.

The USDA standards for organic crop production state that land will have no prohibited substances applied to it for at least three years before the harvest of an organic crop.
