The first purpose of the eukaryotic cell membrane is to enclose and protect the cell's contents from the external environment. The second purpose is to regulate the movement of materials into and out of cells, such as taking in nutrients and expelling waste. The third and final purpose of the eukaryotic cell membrane is to allow interaction with other cells.
