Answer to Question 1

The bacteria from the soil live in the nodules on the roots of plants. Plants need nitrogen and bacteria need nutrients from the plant to live. The bacteria take these nutrients from the plant and convert nitrogen from the air in the soil into a form of nitrogen that the plant can use.
