Answer to Question 1

Earthworms are important to the soil because they burrow through the layers of soil allowing the passage of air and water, they drag organic material into the soil, they feed on organic material that passes through their system and is deposited on the surface, adding several inches of topsoil over a period of 10 to 20 years.
