(1) Purebred operations have purebred cattle that are produced and used as seed stock. These will be the dams and sires grown out for market. (2) Cow-calf operations have calves that are produced that are eventually grown out and sent to market. The cows are weaned and then sold. (3) The stocker operation provides a step between weaning of the calves and finishing or fattening of the animal prior to slaughter. (4) The feedlot operation contains cattle that go on a high concentrate ration designed to put on fat cover. This is the final phase before slaughter.
