A GFCI is a ground-fault circuit interrupter.

Answer to Question 2

Ten safety precautions are: (1) Never disconnect or damage any safety device that is provided by the

with wet hands or feet; (3) do not remove the long ground prong from three-prong 120-volt plugs; (4)
use ground-fault interrupters in kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and outdoor circuits or whenever moisture
may increase shock hazard; (5) immediately discontinue the use of any extension cord that feels warm
or smells like burning rubber; (6) do not place extension cords under carpeting; (7) install all electrical
wiring according to the specifications of the National Electrical Code; (8) use only double insulated
portable tools or tools with three-wire grounded cords; (9) if a fuse is blown or circuit breaker is
tripped, determine and correct the problem before inserting a new fuse or resetting the breaker; and
(10) do not leave heat-producing appliances such as irons hair dryers, and soldering irons unattended.
