The arc length indicates the skill with which the electrode is fed as it burns away.

Answer to Question 2

Stringer beads help students to start a bead at the desired location, hold the electrode at about an
80-degree angle, feed the electrode at an even rate, move across the metal in a straight line; move
across the metal at an even rate of speed, stop or terminate a weld at the desired spot and in an
acceptable manner.
