ANS:Trees
use carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil to manufacture simple sugars in their
leaves. The leaves then use additional carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen to convert simple sugars to
complex sugars and starches. Nitrogen and minerals from the soil are then used to manufacture
proteins, which are the building blocks for growth and reproduction.
