Clearing land for agricultural production, construction, or any other human use allows accelerated erosion to
occur. The diversion of surface runoff from its natural path (e.g., by a large parking lot) causes erosion

Accelerated erosion is the loss of surface soil to water and wind that results when the natural vegetative cover is
damaged or removed by some action of humans
