Answer to Question 1

Tillage is done prior to planting the crop; after the crop has been planted, it is called
cultivation.

Answer to Question 2

 Run soil tests to determine the proper amounts of nutrients to provide and if any pH
adjustments are necessary.
 Add organic matter and/or sand as necessary to improve the soil structure.
 Control weeds and other pests.
 Till the soil.
 Install irrigation systems as necessary.
