Answer to Question 1

Hand harvesting
Advantages: Fruits and vegetables can be selectively harvested, which reduces the
number of low-quality products and debris harvested, thereby saving time cleaning
and sorting after harvesting; in some cases, it is the only choice because machines
for harvesting a particular crop are not available.
Disadvantages: It is labor intensive, expensive, and slow.
Mechanized harvesting
Advantages It is faster than hand harvesting, and many acres can be harvested very
rapidly, thereby getting the commodity out of the field and cooled in a quick and
efficient manner.
Disadvantages: Machines are expensive in their initial cost and upkeep, products
harvested mechanically are more likely to be damaged, and poor-quality products
and debris are indiscriminately harvested, which requires cleaning and sorting of
seeds.

Answer to Question 2

The main advantage is that they are ready for immediate use; the main disadvantage is
that they have a much shorter shelf life.
