Answer to Question 1

Since the water-holding capacity of soil is a function of soil particle size and the
amount of organic material in the soil, soils with large numbers of plants with roots
in the topsoil layer or plants that produce a litter layer covering the soil should
increase the water-holding capacity of the soil.

Answer to Question 2

The answer to this question will vary from student to student. The point of this
question is to relate the results to the original prediction.
