Characteristics of social media used in the horticultural industry today are the following:
 Facebook: connects people virtually, offers daily updates of promotions or products,
allows users to make comments, ask questions, and interact with company staff.
 YouTube: allows anyone to upload videos, offers information and/or instruction on
projects, shares information about products and services.
 LinkedIn: connects professionals, provides access knowledge, offers employment or
career opportunities, and permits the sharing of ideas and strategies.
 Pinterest: allows posting of ideas, products, services; helps generate inspiration



Answer to Question 2

An effective Website should make a positive first impression of the business, explain its
products and services, and offer examples of past accomplishments, with accompanying
endorsements from satisfied former customers, and provide a way for viewers to contact the company. It should also be easy to navigate and offer the information being sought,
without undue and irrelevant clutter. It also needs to be kept current and monitored
frequently for accuracy and relevancy. Finally, it should download quickly, which may
necessitate simplifying some of the graphics.
