Answer to Question 1

The step-by-step approach to renovating a lawn will vary, depending on whether an area
is being re-seeded, spot-seeded, or spot patched. Both procedures begin with a soil test
and weed control. For reseeding, you would then amend the soil with lime based on the soil test and then add fertilizer, again based on the soil test. Next, use an overseeder to
remove thatch and loosen soil as you apply the seed. Finally, roll the lawn, mulch, and
irrigate. For renovating a lawn with greater than 50 percent turfgrass, you would mow,
dethatch, and aerate prior to liming and fertilizing. You would also apply the seed with a
broadcast seeder and use a drag mat for aeration prior to using the lawn roller

Answer to Question 2

Using an ecological approach to lawn care by using organic substances, watering only
when necessary, and avoiding chemicals are important ways to protect the environment
