Answer to Question 1

Three major types of groundcovers used in landscape design are broadleaf evergreens,
deciduous plants, and narrowleaf evergreen plants.

Answer to Question 2

The following are general rules that apply to pruning shrubs:
Shrubs that bloom on wood grown the previous season should be pruned
immediately after flowering.
Shrubs that bloom on the current year's growth should be pruned in fall or early
spring.
Some shrubs require annual pruning to thin out old wood or wood that is shaded out
and killed.
If shrubs send up shoots or suckers from the roots or at the base of the plant, at least
some of them should be removed so that the growth on the plant does not become
too thick.
