Answer to Question 1

The pH of the poinsettia medium is important because it controls the resources of
available nutrients needed by the plant. A soilless medium should have a pH of 5.8 to 6.2,
whereas for a medium that contains soil the pH should be 6.0 to 6.4. It is also necessary
to test the pH of the water being applied to the crop. If the pH is alkaline, it may be
necessary to use an acid treatment in the water to lower the pH level.

Answer to Question 2

There are numerous growing considerations related to the poinsettia. Some of them
include pot size, plants per pot, a consistent temperature of 65F (16C) at night and 70
to 75F (21 to 24C) during the day during September and October, then 75 to 80F (24
to 26C) during the day and 64 to 66F (18 to 19C) at night for finishing, maintaining
proper ventilation and air circulation, and choosing a porous, well-drained growing
medium, to name a few.
