Answer to Question 1

Layering is a method of asexual propagation in which roots are formed on a stem or root
while it is still attached to the parent plant. The stem or root that is rooted is called a
layer. The layer is cut free from the parent only after rooting has taken place. Layering is
used for propagating cane fruits, such as black raspberry or boysenberry. It is also used
for plants that are difficult to root from cuttings.

Answer to Question 2

Unlike T-budding, chip budding can be done when the rootstock is not in active growth.
This is because the bark is not lifted from the wood. This means that chip budding can be
done in summer or fall. The Selection of rootstock and budwood is the same as for Tbudding.
