Answer to Question 1

Conditions that are necessary to achieve a successful graft include:
Compatibility between two plants; as a general rule, it is best to graft a scion to a
rootstock of the same type of plant
Timing; grafting is generally done when the stock and scion are dormant or have no leaves.
Tissue matching; the cambium layer of the two matched plant parts, the scion and
the rootstock, must come in close contact and be held tightly together.
Waterproofing; immediately after the graft is made, all cut surfaces must be covered
with a waterproofing material such as grafting wax, plastic ties, or rubber ties.

Answer to Question 2

Grafting is a process by which two different plants are united so that they grow as one.
The scion is the newly installed shoot or top of the plant. The rootstock (or stock) is the
seedling or plant used as the bottom half of the graft. The rootstock becomes the root
system of the newly grafted plant. Grafting is used as a method of rapidly increasing the
number of a desirable plant and to give plants stronger, more disease-resistant roots

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
