Answer to Question 1

The first type of mist system is the timed system. A solenoid is wired into the irrigation lines to control the flow of water through the lines. An electrical current to the solenoid
is controlled through a timer. The water goes on for a certain amount of time, every so
often. The second type uses a mechanical leaf. A piece of wire is attached to the electrical
device. When the mechanical leaf is wet, the weight of the water on the screen tilts the
leaf down, which trips the solenoid and shuts off the water. As the mechanical leaf dries
out, it becomes lighter. When this happens, it tilts up, which trips the solenoid to let
water through. The water makes the mechanical leaf heavy again, and it turns the
solenoid off.

Answer to Question 2

Black pots tend to absorb more of the sun's energy and keep the roots warm. White pots
keep the roots cooler. Some colors may signify the time the plant was repotted, the type
of plant, or the color of the blooms.
