Answer to Question 1

Field soil provides a nutrient reserve, support, and a water reserve.
Coarse sand provides aeration and support. Peat moss provides for aeration,
nutrient reserve, water reserve, and support.

Answer to Question 2

The sawdust can decompose rapidly, tying up nitrogen, thus
causing a deficiency of nitrogen.
