It is a component of every organic compound in the plant.

Answer to Question 2

In the coldest spot which is generally near the outside of the bench at the
steam inlet end. Placement of the thermometer here insures that all root substrate
will be thoroughly pasteurized. In this way a source of inoculum is not left in the
bench.
