Answer to Question 1

From fall through spring when the plants are dormant they should be watered infrequently. The medium should be allowed to dry completely between waterings. As soon as new growth begins, watering frequency should be increased so that the medium is rewet as soon as it approaches dryness.

By pruning, training, and restricting the soil volume and water available to the roots
