Answer to Question 1

Use the three-cut pruning method: Cut 1 :under the branch about one foot from the trunk; cut

2: further out on the branch to remove the majority of the weight of the branch, cut 3: to remove the stub to be flush with the trunk of the tree.

Answer to Question 2

It removes dead diseased limbs. It creates strong branch structure to decrease chances of branches breaking.
