Answer to Question 1

Impaired water uptake, blockage in the stems, excessive water loss, and
low carbohydrate content.

Answer to Question 2

Collect several plants showing symptoms. Avoid plants that are already
dead. Place entire plants, including roots, into plastic bags. Pack in a sturdy
container and send (ship) overnight. Include a note that contains contact
information, timing of symptom development, species and cultivars affected, and
any recent pesticide (e.g. herbicide, insecticide, miticide, and fungicide)
