The production of the previously major cut flower crops of carnation and
chrysanthemum has declined while the production of specialty cut flowers and
bedding plans has increased.

a) Quality can be high due to favorable light intensity and temperatures.
b) Production costs are low due to low wages, inexpensive greenhouses, and no
little or no need to heat or cool greenhouses. c) Air freight transportation cost to
North America is competitively low.
