Answer to Question 1

(b) Preservation of open space
(c) Prevention and resolution of social conflicts over the use and management of natural resources
(d) Maintaining and improving the health of rangeland ecosystems
(e) Preservation of threatened and endangered species
(f) Expansion of supply of rangeland products

Answer to Question 2

In comparison with desert areas, the prairie ranges have flatter terrain, more favorable timing of precipitation, higher amounts of precipitation and better distribution of natural water sources. Also the prairie ranges evolved under heavy grazing by bison. These characteristics explain the higher grazing resistance of the prairie compared to desert areas.
