Answer to Question 1

2, 3, 5, 6

Rationale: In general, an LPN or an LVN can perform the tasks that a nursing assistant can per-form (skin care, range-of-motion exercises, grooming, ambulation, hygiene measures) as well as dressing changes, endotracheal suctioning, urinary catheterization, and medication administration (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, some piggy-back medications). Assessment and admin-istration of intravenous medications are responsibilities of the registered nurse and outside of the scope of practice of the LPN or LVN.

Answer to Question 2

1

Rationale: Paronychia is a fungal infection that is most often caused by Candida albicans. This results in inflammation of the nail fold, with separation of the fold from the nail plate. The area is generally tender to touch, with purulent drainage. Disorders of the hair follicles include folliculitis, furuncles, and carbuncles. Disorders of the pilosebaceous glands include acne vulgaris and seborrheic dermatitis. There are a variety of disorders involving the epithelial skin.
