It is impossible to separate physiological needs from psychosocial needs. Psychoneuroimmunolo gy is based on recognition of the concept that mind, body, and spirit are one. When a person is anxious or depressed, physical manifestations occur. Even though the patient might be experiencing a shattered self-concept, it does not explain the physical symptoms. This patient is not experiencing a health threat or disease prevention.
