The practice of therapeutic touch was developed in the early 1970s by Dolores Krieger, a professor of nursing at New York University, and Dora Kuntz, a noted healer. Healing touch was developed by Janet Mentgen, a nurse, in the 1980s. In 1993, healing touch was established as a certification program of the American Holistic Nurses Association.
