If the specimen is drawn just before the next dose of a medication, the blood sample would be a trough level. A peak level would be drawn halfway between doses. The other times of blood drawing would not be significant in determining peak or trough drug levels.

Retrospective studies involve reviewing existing data usually found in medical records or hospital charts. Prospective studies actively follow subjects over the period of the study and do not rely on data previously collected.
