Answer to Question 1

C
The nurse is responsible for assessing the patient for symptoms of bleeding or occlusion after an arterial puncture. Direct pressure must be applied to the puncture site until all bleeding has stopped, for a minimum of 5 minutes. The nurse should not apply heat to the puncture site or encourage immediate range of motion. Observation for a rash or dyspnea would not be indicated for an arterial puncture.
