Sterilized gowns are considered sterile in front of the chest to the level of the sterile field. Sleeves are sterile from 5 cm above the elbow to the cuff. The neck, shoulders, underarms, and back of the gown are considered to be non-sterile.

The four areas of competency that a nurse should master to be able to assist a patient with sexual health include: comfort with own sexuality and discussing sexuality with others; excellent communication and active listening skills; knowledge about sexuality in health and illness; and a role model to demonstrate how to integrate sexuality assessment into practice.
