Answer to Question 1

B
The toddler is not aware of death. The preschooler views death as a temporary separation. The school-age child appreciates that death is final and inevitable. Adolescents will tend to deny that death could happen to them.

Answer to Question 2

D
A decreased number of nerve cells that control chewing, swallowing, and taste is associated with aging. Saliva production is decreased and saliva becomes more alkaline. Peristaltic action decreases with a relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter. This causes a decreased emptying of the esophagus and stomach. Elimination is often impaired in older patients. Methods to prevent constipation are physical activity and a regular time for toileting.
