Answer to Question 1

C, D, E
Allergic rhinitis or hay fever is an inflammatory disorder of the nasal mucosa. Symptoms include rhinorrhea, postnasal drip, sneezing, allergic conjunctivitis, sniffling, itchy nose and palate, dark circles under the eyes, and the allergic salute. During immunotherapy, children must be observed for signs of anaphylaxis for 30 minutes. Caregivers should be advised to avoid wool and down bedding; use dustproof covers on beds; remove carpets, drapes, and blinds from the child's room; keep humidity lower than 50 percent; and keep pets outside.

Answer to Question 2

A, C, F
Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils usually caused by pharyngitis. Enlarged tonsils can interfere with breathing and swallowing and can cause partial deafness. Common symptoms include sore throat; enlarged, bright red tonsils; mouth breathing; halitosis; nasal speech; and snoring. Vital signs and lab values are reviewed, and the client is assessed for infection and loose teeth. After surgery, the nurse should observe the client for restlessness or anxiety, frequent swallowing, and rapid pulse. A flashlight should be used to observe the posterior pharynx for bleeding.
