Answer to Question 2

D
Atopic dermatitis, or eczema, is a chronic superficial inflammatory skin disorder characterized by severe itching. The condition may be an allergic reaction to irritants. Papules and vesicles usually begin on the cheeks and spread to the arms, legs, and trunk. A hypoallergenic diet and a soy formula are usually recommended. Parents should be advised to avoid cow's milk, eggs, fish, corn, citrus, peanuts, nuts, and chocolate. Dust, mold, animals, and cigarette smoke should also be avoided. The nurse's goal is to soothe and relieve itching and to maintain skin integrity.
