Answer to Question 1

A
Palpate the bladder to assess for distention and position. A distended bladder may cause hemorrhage. If the bladder is off to the side or the fundus is higher than usual, it is distended. Keep the client NPO, and immediately notify her health care provider.

Answer to Question 2

A
General anesthesia produces significant effects on the body: unconsciousness, complete insensibility to pain, amnesia, motionlessness, and muscle relaxation. General anesthesia also produces loss of control of vital functions, such as maintaining an airway, breathing and maintaining heart rate, and regulating temperature; these functions are controlled by the anesthesia provider when general anesthesia is administered.
