Answer to Question 1

B
Pernicious anemia, an autoimmune disease in which the stomach is unable to secrete a sufficient amount of intrinsic factor essential for absorption of vitamin B12, develops slowly; manifestations include weakness, sore tongue, varied neurological disturbances, memory loss, jaundice, and irritability. Medical management includes intramuscular administration of cyanocobalamin over the client's lifetime, folic acid taken orally, and close monitoring for symptoms of gastric carcinoma.

Answer to Question 2

D
While most people remain symptom-free for 10 or more years, others develop symptoms within months; these symptoms include enlarged lymph nodes, weight loss, fever and sweats, lack of energy, persistent skin rashes or flaky skin, frequent oral or vaginal yeast infections, and herpes infection.
