Answer to Question 1

C
Feedback:
Wearing a cervical collar for a prolonged period can lead to permanent stiffness in the neck. Clients are required to wear cervical collars almost continuously, even while sleeping, for 10 days to 2 weeks. They remove them to do gentle range of motion neck exercises. The sooner a client performs exercise, the faster the revascularization and recovery occurs. A cervical collar does not result in dysphagia or stroke.

Answer to Question 2

C
Feedback:
While interviewing the Malaysian client, the nurse should sit at a distance of more than one arm's length from the client. The nurse should not sit alongside the client, as the client may feel uncomfortable. If the nurse sits at the back of the client, the nurse may not be able to observe the client's body language. If the nurse sits in a corner of the room, communication may not be effective.

Cocaine was isolated in 1860 and first used as a local anesthetic in 1884. Its first clinical use was by Sigmund Freud to wean a patient from morphine addiction. The fictional character Sherlock Holmes was supposed to be addicted to cocaine by injection.

Though newer “smart” infusion pumps are increasingly becoming more sophisticated, they cannot prevent all programming and administration errors. Health care professionals that use smart infusion pumps must still practice the rights of medication administration and have other professionals double-check all high-risk infusions.
