Hospitals serving patients using Medicare were no longer paid for all costs incurred in delivering care to a patient. Instead, inpatient hospital services for patients using Medicare were combined into 468 DRGs. PPS provides a preset amount of money to hospitals and health care providers for DRGs, not for health promotion. Managed care focuses on health promotion.
