Answer to Question 1

C
Psychosocial aspects of communication include gestures, such as the use of hands and arms when communicating with others, and; recognizing cultural differences in their use and meaning. Cultural values, or distinct values that differ among populations and groups, also influence communication, as does political correctness, the use of language that demonstrates sensitivity to people who are different from oneself. Nurses must understand that communication is most effective when these psychosocial aspects are taken into consideration.

Answer to Question 2

A
Standard Precautions are guidelines recommended by the CDC to reduce the risk of microorganism transmission from recognized and unrecognized sources of infection in hospitals. Although the CDC recommendations are not subject to legal enforcement, health care facilities must follow regulations issued by OSHA; these regulations incorporate the CDC guidelines and thus ensure that Standard Precautions and transmission-based precautions are followed.
