Answer to Question 1

C
Home health care may provide intravenous therapy, ventilator care, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, wound care, and special care for diabetes and cardiac or respiratory problems. A registered nurse calls on the client at certain intervals to assess the client's condition, supervise the work of LP/VNs and unlicensed workers, and deliver skilled nursing care. The LP/VN's responsibilities vary with the agency, but all nurses working in home care must have excellent assessment skills and the ability to identify actual and potential problems. Teaching the client and the family is a major responsibility for the home health nurse. Clients and families must be taught regarding the disease process, medications, special skills required, how to document signs and symptoms, and how and when to contact the home health care nurse, the physician, and emergency services.

Answer to Question 2

B
The lowest level of Maslow's hierarchy, physiologic needs, including food, water, elimination, oxygen, activity, sleep, and sex, must be met before higher-level needs can be achieved. For example, a person who has difficulty breathing, focuses attention on obtaining oxygen and is not motivated to read a book or engage in social conversation.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
