The nurse is working in the nursery, and is caring for a male infant who has had a circumcision. The mother of the infant is distraught because the infant is not feeding well and cries when she picks him up.

Rationale: The baby likely is in pain and the nurse should teach the mother ways to soothe the baby, such as music and rocking. The baby might be tense if the mother is, but the likelihood is that the infant has pain from the circumcision. There is no reason to believe the child has colic or autism.
