Answer to Question 1

3
Rationale: Applying a warm compress will improve blood flow to the foot and help to improve blood flow after performing the puncture. If the infant is fed prior to collecting the specimen, vomiting is almost assured, as the infant will cry vigorously. Elevating the foot of the bed or just the foot of the infant will diminish blood flow because gravity will reduce circulating blood.

Answer to Question 2

3
Rationale: An 8-month-old infant is beginning to have stranger anxiety, and turns away from strangers. This behavior is not indicative of abuse, frequent hospitalization, or lack of trust.
