Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
The nurse will praise the NAP when obtaining the pulse from the brachial site. The brachial or apical pulse is the best site for assessing an infant's or a young child's pulse because other peripheral pulses are deep and difficult to palpate accurately.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
The average body temperature of older adults is approximately 35 to 36.1 C (95 to 97 F). This is not hypothermia or hyperthermia. Older adults have poor vasomotor control, reduced amounts of subcutaneous tissue, reduced sweat gland activity, and reduced metabolism. The end result is lowered body temperature.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
